Institute of Mathematics Education, Thane is conducting mathematics competitive exams for students of std. V to std VIII. The Institute has been conducting such exams for the last 32 years, keeping the objective in mind that students should not have any phobia of mathematics.

All over India, the institute has been conducting two tests of different difficulty levels in two groups: Group 1 and Group 2 as shown below, so that talented and gifted students can be identified and pursued to take part in IMO (International Maths Olympiad) to be held in std. XI/ Std XII.
The groups are as follows-
- Group 1- consists of std V and VI
- Group 2- consists of std VII and VIII
To encourage the students, the institute organizes two exams in the whole academic year. MAT (Maths Aptitude Test) is the first test conducted in the months of July, August and September. MAT is an objective type examination which consists of multiple choice questions where only a single option is correct.

The students getting above 50 marks in any one of the three attempts are selected for the next round i.e. JMO |
JMO (Junior Maths Olympiad) is the second stage of the competition generally held in the month of February.
JMO is a subjective type exam where students are awarded marks on the basis of their presentation and the steps they have shown.
